Eni SpA said Thursday that its chemical subsidiary Versalis has acquired the technology and plants of Italian company Ecoplastic for its mechanical recycling hub in northern Italy.

The oil-and-gas major said the instalation of the acquired units will take place starting from next year. This represents the first step for the construction of the recycling hub as part of a transformation project of the Porto Marghera plant in Venice.

Ecoplastic is a company of the De Berg group specializing in the recovery, recycling and transformation chain of styrenic polymers, according to Eni.

Financial details of the deal weren't disclosed.
