Assicurazioni Generali SpA (G.MI) said on Wednesday that it has appointed Jaime Anchustegui Melgarejo as group chief operations & insurance officer, a newly created position that combines the activities that fall under "operations" with those of an "insurance officer."

The appointment will be effective from Jan. 1, when Mr. Anchustegui will join the company's group management committee.

The 55-year-old Mr. Anchustegui, who will report directly to the Group CEO, is currently head of the company's EMEA region. He has previously served as CEO of Generali Espana.

"The creation of this new role is another important step towards simplifying our management structure and streamlining Generali's operations," Chief Executive Philippe Donnet said.
