Orange (ORA.FR) said Thursday that it agreed a major investment in West Africa submarine cable system MainOne, in order to expand its capacity on the African continent.

The partnership with MainOne Company includes construction and installation of two new branches and stations, adding to MainOne's current system consisting of a 7,000-kilometer submarine cable and landing stations in Nigeria, Ghana and Portugal, Orange said.

By mid-2019, the new stations will connect the cable to Dakar in Senegal and Abidjan in Ivory Coast, it said.

Orange didn't disclose the invested sum.
