Vodafone Group PLC (VOD.LN) and Orange (ORA.FR) will expand
their current mobile-network agreement in Spain to include 5G, the
U.K. telecommunications company said Thursday.
The expanded collaboration, which will cover the bigger cities,
will result in 14,800 sites being shared, up from the 5,600 shared
currently, Vodafone said. The FTSE 100-listed company said it
expects to achieve operating-expenditure and capital-expenditure of
at least 600 million euros ($671.5 million) over the next decade as
a result of the new agreement.
Vodafone and Orange will extend their network-sharing agreement
to cities with populations of up to 175,000 from towns of up to
25,000 people currently, the U.K. company said. Vodafone said it
will be able to offer fiber and convergent services to an
additional 1 million households over the Orange fiber network.
Vodafone said the expanded agreement is part of its
network-sharing agreement and builds on recent deals with
Telefonica SA (TEF.MC) in the U.K. and Telecom Italia SpA (TIT.MI)
in Italy.
