Engie SA (ENGI.FR) said Tuesday that its first-quarter revenue rose but other metrics fell as a result of challenging conditions, and backed its 2019 guidance.

The French electric-utility company said revenue for the period came in at 18.8 billion euros ($21.12 billion), compared with EUR17.5 billion a year earlier. The rise was partly due to positive currency effects and favorable market conditions for its global energy-management activities, it said.

Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization fell to EUR3.1 billion from EUR3.3 billion, dragged down by temperatures in France, while current operating income was down to EUR2 billion, it said.

Engie backed its 2019 targets, which include a net recurring income of between EUR2.5 billion and EUR2.7 billion.
