Vodafone Group PLC said Friday that it has designated Heineken NV's Chief Executive Jean-Francois van Boxmeer as its next chairman, replacing Gerard Kleisterlee who plans to retire in November after nine years in the role.

Mr. van Boxmeer, who has been CEO of the Dutch brewer since 2005 and plans to step down next month, will be appointed as a nonexecutive director after Vodafone's annual general meeting on July 28, the U.K. telecommunications company said.

Vodafone said the plan is for Mr. Van Boxmeer to succeed Mr. Kleisterlee as chairman on Nov. 3.
