Lauda, a Ryanair Holdings PLC group airline, said on Friday that it will shut down its main base in Austria and more than 300 pilot and cabin crew jobs will be lost as a result.

The Austrian low-cost airline said the base in Vienna will close on May 29 after it couldn't agree new labour contracts with the union Vida.

The airline said it had asked Austria's Finance Minister Gernot Blumel to require Vida to sign the new collective labour agreement to save jobs as he was negotiating an 800 million euros ($877.0 million) state aid bailout for Lufthansa subsidiary Austrian Airlines.

"It is regrettable that the Chancellor should roll out subsidies for a German airline while allowing Vida to destroy 300 Lauda jobs of Austrian citizens in Vienna," Lauda said.

Ryanair bought an initial stake in Lauda in 2018, before taking full control in early 2019. It has booked consistent losses on the airline, blaming tough competition from Lufthansa, while planning to replace its Airbus fleet with Boeing aircraft.

Ryanair shares in London at 1320 GMT were up 1.4% at EUR10.67.
