Airbus SE and Qantas Airways Ltd. plan to jointly invest up to $200 million to speed up the use of sustainable aviation fuel in Australia.

"The Qantas and Airbus partnership will provide funding for locally developed and produced SAF and feedstock initiatives," Airbus said Sunday.

Currently, Australia exports millions of metric tons of feedstock to be turned into SAF in other countries every year.

Qantas, which has set a goal of using 10% SAF by 2030, sources SAF from overseas.

The agreement comes as part of Qantas's recently announced plane orders. All the new planes are certified for operation using 50% SAF.

Engine maker Pratt & Whitney Canada Corp. is also participating in the venture.
