Airbus SE said Thursday that it has partnered with industrial
gases company Linde PLC to develop the infrastructure to supply
aircrafts with hydrogen, a clean fuel that can help the aviation
sector cut its environmental footprint.
The European plane maker said both companies would define and
launch pilot projects at several airports starting next year.
Furthermore, they will work on the technology to make
power-to-liquid fuels, a type of Sustainable Aviation Fuel, or SAF,
made from the combination of green hydrogen with carbon monoxide,
it said.
"We are advancing well with hydrogen as an important technology
pathway to achieve our ambition of bringing a zero-emission
commercial aircraft to market by 2035," said Airbus Chief Technical
Officer Sabine Klauke.
Airbus said it has so far signed agreements with partners and
airports in France, Italy, South Korea, Japan and Singapore for the
project.
