Shell said Thursday it has halted activity at three offshore oil production platforms in the Gulf of Mexico after some pipeline leakage was discovered at a station on the coast in Louisiana.

"Shell can confirm that the Mars and Amberjack Pipelines have been shut-in due to a flange leak at the Fourchon booster station," it said in an emailed statement. "As a result, Shell's deep-water assets in the Mars Corridor-Mars, Ursa, and Olympus---have also been shut-in."

The company added that it's working with local authorities to assess the situation. "We are currently looking at alternative flow paths to connecting carriers," it said.

Oil prices were showing little reaction to news of the temporary production shut-ins, with WTI crude 2.3% higher in after-hours trading at $94.02 a barrel. The market closed today's session up 2.6% at a one-week-high $94.34.
