The Messaging Anti Abuse Working Group (MAAWG) Welcomes Comcast to
its Board of Directors Group MAAWG's Third General Meeting To Be
Held March 1st-3rd in San Diego WILMINGTON, Del., March 1
/PRNewswire/ -- The Messaging Anti-Abuse Working Group (MAAWG), a
group of communications and technology companies committed to
eradicating spam, viruses and other forms of messaging abuse, today
announced that Comcast has joined the group at the Board of
Directors -- Sponsor level. With this addition, the MAAWG surpasses
an addressable base of over 450 Million subscribers. Comcast has
joined MAAWG in an effort to develop initiatives with all MAAWG
members to address the messaging abuse problem in areas of
technology, industry collaboration and public policy. "Comcast is
dedicated to continuously providing our customers the best
broadband Internet experience. This membership aligns with our
company's focus on developing innovative and best-in-class
communication solutions that keep our customers secure while
exceeding their expectations," said Mitch Bowling, vice president
of operations and technical support for Comcast Online.
"Collaborating with other message service providers against abuse
further demonstrates our commitment to continuously improving our
customers' online communication experience," Bowling added. By
addressing these areas, Comcast and the other MAAWG members hope to
help prevent global spamming, virus and denial-of-attacks problems
facing current and potential users. Addressing a single geographic
region will not solve the problem. It requires companies working
together across geographic regions in the areas of technology,
collaboration and public policy to help resolve these issues. "We
are excited to have Comcast as a part of MAAWG's board of
directors. We look forward to working with them to help us define a
set of ongoing best practices across providers to improve
deliverability while eliminating spam and viruses," said Omar
Tellez, Chair of the Outreach and Communications Subcommittee and
Director of Market Development at Openwave. MAAWG's next general
meeting will be held in San Diego, CA from March 1st to March 3rd,
2004. For more information on the meeting please go to
