SOUTHAMPTON, Pa., Nov. 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Environmental
Tectonics Corporation ("ETC") (http://www.etcusa.com) shipped the
last major subassembly of its GL-6000 today to Wright Paterson Air
Force Base. The cockpit capsule with its rotating gimbals and
linear sleds represent the last and most important parts of the
GL-6000 operation. The GL-6000 is an advanced training and
research device that was competitively awarded by US Navy to
ETC. GL-6000 was sold by the Aircrew Training Systems
("ATS") business unit of ETC. The US Navy will use this
device to support clinical and operational research and mishap
investigation.
The capsule, gimbals and sled, provide 4 of the 6 degrees of
freedom for this dynamic simulation machine. The linear sled
is the largest of the three at 15-17 feet in length. This
linear sled attaches to the planetary arm and provides the two
degrees of freedom; horizontal and vertical motions.
A sophisticated CCTV system is housed inside the cockpit to
record the events of the simulation and the student's
reaction. The cockpit additionally has a wide field of view
visuals all programmed into the unit and ready for installation and
integration with operator console equipment at the site.
Completion of these pieces marks the end of the factory assembly
portion of the process. Engineers and technicians alike have
enjoyed watching these major assemblies go from drawings to end
product.
About the GL-6000
The GL-6000 is a multipurpose device that can be used for
research or training applications. The GL-6000's dynamic
motion capability, wide field-of-view real-world visuals and
reconfigurable cabin can support operational and clinical research
into complex human factors issues for aircraft, land and water
vehicles. It has an advanced motion system with 6 axes
of motion (Rotary, Pitch, Roll, Yaw, Vertical and Horizontal), 360
degree Continuous Rotation in 4 axes (rotary, Pitch, Roll and
Yaw) a 15-17 foot Horizontal track, +/- 3 Foot Vertical Carriage,
maximum 3 G capability, 53 foot arm structure and
electro-mechanical drives. It has interchangeable cockpits,
medical monitoring, built in test feature, CCTV and can be vehicle
specific with varying levels of fidelity.
