BASF SE and Sanyo Chemical Industries Ltd. have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on the development of more environmentally friendly polymers, the two companies said Monday.

The German and Japanese chemical companies said they aim to jointly develop and create advanced polyurethane dispersions, known as PUDs, to produce products with a strong sustainability contribution.

Newly developed products will have world-wide market access through the two companies' global footprint, with the MoU allowing both to leverage on production networks for PUDs, they said.

"The PUD market demand is expanding and formulators are looking for improved product performance.... This collaboration will allow both parties to reduce time-to-market of their new technologies," BASF's Sylvain Huguenard, vice president, resins and additives, Asia Pacific, said.
