Nouveau Monde Graphite Inc. said it was in an agreement with Caterpillar Inc., which will develop, test and produce Cat "zero-emission machines" for the Matawinie graphite mine.

The goal of the partnership is for Caterpillar to become the exclusive supplier of an all-electric mining fleet for deployment at Nouveau Monde's Matawinie mine by 2028, the company said.

Nouveau Monde and Caterpillar will work together throughout the development, and test the zero-emission fleet and infrastructure prior to commercial production.

Nouveau Monde shares were up 9% to $8.48 in premarket trading.
