Eni SpA (ENI.MI) said Monday that the Mozambique Rovuma Venture consortium has submitted a development plan for the Rovuma liquefied natural gas development to the Mozambican government

The plan comes almost seven years after Eni discovered gas in the region and provides details of the design and construction of the two gas trains that will eventually produce 7.6 million tons a year of LNG, Eni said.

Mozambique Rovuma Venture is a joint venture between Eni, Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM) and China National Petroleum Corp. set up to develop commercial gas production in the Area 4 Concession of the Rovuma basin, which straddles northern Mozambique and Tanzania.

Galp Energia SGPS S/A (GALP.LB), Korea Gas Corp. (036460.SE) and Mozambique's national oil company Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos also hold minority stakes in the concession.

Exxon Mobil will lead construction and operation of natural gas liquefaction, while Eni will lead construction and operation of upstream facilities, the Italian oil producer said.

Eni said it expects the joint-venture partners to submit a final investment decision in 2019, while LNG production should start by 2024.
