Portland General Electric Co. (POR) and NextEra Energy Inc.
(NEE) on Wednesday said they will build a new energy facility in
eastern Oregon that will co-locate and integrate wind and solar
generation and battery storage.
The companies said the project, called the Wheatridge Renewable
Energy Facility, will combine 300 megawatts of wind generation, 50
megawatts of solar generation and 30 megawatts of battery
storage.
Portland General will own 100 megawatts of the wind project,
while NextEra, which will build and operate the facility, will own
the balance of the project and sell its output to Portland General
under 30-year power purchase agreements, the companies said.
Portland General said it expects to invest about $160 million
for its owned portion of the project.
Wheatridge will be powered by 120 wind turbines made by General
Electric Co.'s (GE) GE Renewable Energy Inc. unit. The companies
said the facility's wind component will be operational by December
2020, with construction of the solar and battery components planned
for 2021.
