Total Petrochemicals & Refining USA on Thursday reported an operational disruption related to a sulfur-recovery unit at its refinery in Port Arthur, Texas.

"Unit 819 experienced a process upset," the refinery said in a statement to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. It didn't further identify Unit 819, but said the incident led to above-normal emissions from a sulfur-recovery unit incinerator. "The process-upset condition was addressed and Unit 819 returned to normal operation."

The emissions of sulfur dioxide happened Wednesday afternoon and lasted less than two hours, the refinery said.

The 225,000-barrel-a-day Total Port Arthur refinery is located 95 miles east of Houston.
