Exxon Mobil Corp. reported an operational disruption to a unit
and above-normal gas emissions at its refinery in Beaumont,
Texas.
"Unit upset resulting in flaring and various combustion devices
resulting in a sulfur dioxide [release of] a reportable quantity,"
the refinery said in a statement Friday to the Texas Commission on
Environmental Quality. "Refinery personnel stabilized operations.
The refinery anticipates no impact to production and continues to
meet contractual agreements."
It said the emissions ended Friday and lasted about 12
hours.
The 362,000-barrel-a-day Beaumont refinery is 90 miles east of
Houston.
