--Several Brazilian power companies have begun replacing transformers made by General Electric Co. (GE), after a number of explosions caused the country's grid operator to recommend removing the equipment, Reuters reports Monday.

--Several companies have begun to tender offers for replacement units or are actively replacing the units now, the report said.

--General Electric said "GE Grid Solutions performed a series of checks in the equipment with its clients and, as of this moment, there is no evidence that the problems were caused by the design, components or production processes," according to the report.

--There are about 700 of GE's CTH-550 transformers used in the Brazilian power grid, the report said.
