Shares of online auction site eBay Inc. (EBAY) are trading up in Wednesday's after-hours market, pushed higher by the company's strong second-quarter profits and a raised outlook.

At 6:38 p.m. ET, the company's shares had gained 5.46%, to trade at $41.16. After-hours volume was robust at better than 1.2 million shares.

In the day's regular trading session, eBay's stock closed 2.23% lower, at $39.03 per share.

After the bell Wednesday, eBay said its second-quarter revenue rose 2%, and that it expected third-quarter revenue to come in a range between $2.61 billion and $2.66 billion.

EBay also said it took a 5.5% stake in Indian e-commerce startup Paytm Mall and said it sold a flash-sale site in Germany called brands4friends.
