GyroMetric Systems Absolute Dynamic Shaft Alignment launch
Remote Monitored Systems plc ("RMS" or the "Company") is pleased
to announce that GyroMetric Systems Ltd ("GyroMetric"), in which
RMS has a 58% shareholding, has developed and launched its Absolute
Dynamic Shaft Alignment ("ADSA") system.
GyroMetric has developed the world's first system capable of
performing initial absolute alignment as well as continuous dynamic
(ie whilst operating) monitoring of relative alignment of rotating
machinery.
GyroMetric's ADSA system is a significant breakthrough, which
enables any builder or owner of large rotating equipment to install
GyroMetric's equipment, use it to align the shafts initially, and
then leave it in place to monitor conditions during the life of the
asset, and when misalignment occurs, use it to measure and correct
the shaft alignment absolutely.
Trevor Brown, Executive Director of RMS, said "GyroMetric's new
ADSA system has the potential to transform the alignment and
monitoring of rotating machinery, resulting in significant
reductions in operating costs and improved failure prevention in
many industrial applications. This is an exciting development,
building on the success of GyroMetric's existing Incremental Motion
Encoder technology."

About GyroMetric
Gyrometric Systems Limited www.gyrometric.systems develops and
manufactures digital monitoring and safeguarding systems for
rotating shafts. The GyroMetric technology uses proprietary
algorithms, software and AI techniques to analyse remotely critical
drive shaft performance so as to diagnose and predict drive system
maintenance requirements before catastrophic damage occurs. The
company's technology is proven, operating reliably in harsh
environments over many years. Remote Monitored Systems plc has a
58% shareholding in GyroMetric.
Absolute and Dynamic Alignment
Most industrial machines are driven by a prime mover (typically
an electric motor or an internal combustion engine), which
transmits its power via a coupling to the working machine. The
coupling is designed to accommodate minor misalignment, and to
reduce vibration, however misalignment beyond the design limits of
the coupling will cause premature failure. Misalignment wastes
energy and causes up to 50% of breakdowns.
There are two distinct approaches to measuring shaft alignment,
absolute and relative.
All existing approaches to measuring absolute alignment, usually
carried out when a machine is first built, require that the machine
is stationary to carry out the measurements.
Until now, dynamic relative measurement of alignment and
movement while the machine is in operation uses a different
approach, which simply assumes that the initial set up is
correct.
GyroMetric's ADSA system is the first to be able to combine
absolute and dynamic measurement. The disadvantage of the relative
solution is that two sets of equipment are required, one for
initial set up, and another for continuous monitoring.
GyroMetric's ADSA system allows continuous monitoring to take
place, with no labour cost in re-measuring and no down time.
GyroMetric's system is digital, enables limits to be set to warn
automatically that intervention is required, and provides the
capability for remote monitoring.
