UniCredit SpA said Monday that Chief Executive Jean Pierre Mustier has confirmed he will remain with the bank.

The Italian bank released a statement in response to media reports that Mr. Mustier was identified as the preferred external candidate to become the next CEO of HSBC Holdings PLC.

The London-based bank is currently in the final stages of selecting a permanent leader after ousting former head John Flint and making Noel Quinn interim CEO.
