Intesa Sanpaolo SpA said Friday that it is donating 100 million euros ($107.9 million) to boost the Italian healthcare system as the country grapples with the coronavirus pandemic.

The Italian bank said the donation could be used to add 2,500 new beds in the intensive-care unit, the acquisition of medical equipment and the set up of medical facilities among other related needs.

The announcement comes just days after Intesa said it is setting aside EUR15 billion for Italian businesses to soften the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
