Toll operator Aleatica SAU said Friday that it will buy the majority stake in Societa di Progetto Brebemi SpA from Italian bank Intesa Sanpaolo SpA.

Aleatica, which is owned by Australian IFM Global Infrastructure Fund, said that Brebemi operates 62 kilometers of toll road in Italy, connecting the cities of Milan and Brescia.

It didn't disclose any financial details of the deal, which is subject to regulatory approvals and expected to close not earlier than October.

The transaction is the transportation company's first investment in Italy. It "provides Aleatica with a highly strategic asset and a strong position to participate in further infrastructure investment opportunities in Italy over time," Aleatica said in a statement.

Intesa Sanpaolo said late Friday that the deal was part of its strategy to dispose nonstrategic equity investments.
