Petrobras on new satellite service
—
Rio de Janeiro, July 3, 2020 – Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. – Petrobras informs that it has contracted a new satellite service that will allow a 75% reduction in data transmission time between the company's platforms and command centers.
The transmission time (round trip time - RTT) was reduced due to the connection through satellites that orbit the planet at medium altitude, about 8 thousand kilometers, instead of geostationary satellites located at 36 thousand kilometers.
The reduction in RTT speeds up the use of digital applications in real time, such as voice calls, videoconferences, corporate and operational systems, such as automation screens. The technology increases productivity through higher speed of data transmission with higher quality, enabling, for example, the remote analysis of equipment.
The new technology was installed on the P-68 and P-66 platforms, in the Santos Basin pre-salt, and will be extended to other platforms in the Búzios, Lula, Berbigão and Atapu fields.
The contracting of this satellite service is in line with Petrobras' strategy to reduce costs and increase productivity with the help of digital transformation.
