Francesco Gattei has begun as Eni SpA's new chief financial officer, the Italian energy company said Monday.

Mr. Gattei was appointed on August 1. He replaces Massimo Mondazzi, who has moved to head Energy Evolution, Eni's new division which focuses on cleaner energy.

"Gattei is tasked with supporting the CEO in developing and implementing Eni's economic and financial strategy during this important phase of accelerating the Company's decarbonization plan," the company said.

Mr. Gattei was most recently upstream director of Eni's Americas business.
