-- The European Union's antitrust body is likely to oppose plans
to set up a single national broadband network in Italy amid fears
it could create a monopoly, Bloomberg reports citing people
familiar with the matter.
-- EU concerns stem from the proposed combination of Telecom
Italia SpA's landline network and Open Fiber SpA--a 50/50 joint
venture between Enel SpA and Italian state lender Cassa Depositi e
Prestiti, Bloomberg reports.
-- The EU and Telecom Italia didn't immediately respond to
requests for comment when approached by Dow Jones.
