Daimler AG said Wednesday its first-quarter performance is set to continue to benefit from the positive trend experienced in previous quarters despite temporary bottlenecks for semiconductors.

The German premium car maker said Mercedes-Benz's profitability in the quarter will be supported by strong pricing and cost control, with unit sales and revenue at Mercedes-Benz Cars & Vans expected to be above that in the year-earlier period thanks to the Chinese market and a strong product mix.

Profitability at Daimler Trucks is expected to be higher on year in the first quarter, with incoming orders looking promising especially in Europe and the U.S., according to the company. Unit sales should remain flat on year despite the pandemic hit, it said.

Daimler said semiconductor bottlenecks are affecting the supply chain of its trucks-and-buses division, which is monitoring the situation.
