Terremark Worldwide, Inc. (AMEX:TWW) a leading operator of
integrated Tier-1 Internet exchanges and a global provider of
managed IT infrastructure solutions for government and private
sectors, today announced that Broward Community College has signed
a contract for colocation services at the NAP of the Americas
facility. Broward Community College joins Miami-Dade College and
other educational institutions which house their critical
infrastructure at the NAP of the Americas. Terremark will provide
Broward Community College with secure and redundant Internet
access, colocation space and power. This colocation space will
serve as the foundation for the colleges internet and disaster
recovery platforms. For Phase I of the implementation, the College
will house an automated tape library system, student and employee
email, and a pair of servers running virtualization software to
support several production server applications. In addition, the
college will explore diverse fiber connections into the NAP on an
optical network to provide highly resilient connectivity onto the
colleges fiber optic network and to their primary datacenter. The
college was easily able to obtain Terremarks services as a result
of Terremarks existing contract with Miami-Dade County, which
allows Floridas public schools, counties and cities to purchase
services under the Miami-Dade sole source contract vehicle in a
cost-effective manner. Broward Community College continues to
experience enormous growth in the use of Internet resources by its
students, professors, internal departments and the community. It
has become mission-critical to have sufficient capacity and the
most reliable and secure colocation facility available, said Frank
Sandmaier, Associate Vice President, Technology Infrastructure for
Broward Community College. In the event of an emergency, such as
hurricanes, it is our responsibility to house our mission-critical
infrastructure in a secure, reliable and accessible facility like
the NAP. Moving a portion of our datacenter to the NAP will enhance
our ability to serve our end-users and is a prudent and
cost-effective decision. Broward Community College is a public
State university, founded in 1960. From this beginning, the college
has experienced solid growth in facilities, number of students, and
quality of programs while serving the citizens of Broward County.
Currently, Broward Community College has three campuses, and three
academic centers which serve more than 50,000 students annually.
By deploying at the NAP, Broward Community College will have
direct access to the Florida Lambda Rail Consortium and Internet2s
research and education networks, said Manuel D. Medina, Chairman
and CEO of Terremark Worldwide, Inc. The NAP has become the
facility of choice for educational entities such as the University
of Miami, Florida International University, Barry University, St.
Thomas University, Nova Southeastern University, Miami-Dade
College, the Collier County School District and others, who entrust
their mission-critical infrastructure to us for a more secure,
reliable and cost-effective solution. About Terremark Worldwide,
