VIENNA--The Austrian oil and gas company OMV AG's (OMV.VI)
production and exports in Libya have not been affected by an
explosion at a pipeline in the eastern part of the North African
country, OMV Spokesman Robert Lechner told Dow Jones Newswires
Thursday.
The blast took place late on Tuesday at the Zueitina pipeline,
which transports oil not only from OMV, but also from the U.S.'s
Occidental Petroleum Corp. (OXY). Libya's National Oil Co. said
Wednesday that it was investigating the causes of the
explosion.
Before unrest broke out in the country in 2011, Libya produced
around 10%, or about 33,000 barrels per day, of OMV's total
output.
Although OMV has been producing again in Libya, the company's
head of exploration and production, Jaap Huijskes, said in February
that security remains a worry in Libya.
