“Earning a Double Gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition is a huge honor and we are proud to have our Cask Strength Rye join the rest of our flagship expressions as a recipient of the award,” said Chris Seals, co-founder and CEO of Still Austin. “SFWSC’s Double Gold is one of our industry’s most coveted honors, and signals to whiskey connoisseurs the quality and taste we’re proud to offer from Still Austin.”

The Art of Texas Whiskey:

Still Austin makes 100% of their whiskey in-house from grain to glass. They use only Texas-grown grains and distill all their whiskey in Austin, where they’ve learned to harness the fluctuating central Texas weather patterns to age their whiskey to perfection. The result is a delicious, high-quality work of art.

The artwork on the labels, created by internationally acclaimed artist and native Texan, Marc Burckhardt, is a series of “archetypical” Austinites (e.g. “The Musician,” “The Artist,” “The Naturalist”). Each provides a sense of the people who have influenced and inspired the team, while paying homage to the Texas terroir. The art on the Cask Strength Rye Whiskey is a rendition of the artwork seen on 'The Artist' bottle, but now with an added dark night sky to emphasize this is a darker, stronger version of the original.

The Cask Strength Rye is bottled at 116 proof (58% ABV), and offers a nose of cherry cobbler with a buttery cinnamon crust, candied ginger and lemon peels, and apricot streusel coffee cake; while the palate presents notes of grilled peaches with mint ice cream, apple and marzipan dumplings, and gingerbread cookies with lemon zest; the Cask Strength Rye offers a long, spicy finish with baking spices in brown butter, muddled cherries, and mint leaves.

The distilling team is led by Head Distiller, John Schrepel, who works closely with Master Blender Nancy ‘The Nose’ Fraley to carefully test and select their most complex barrels to bottle. Still Austin’s 42-foot custom-made column, also lovingly nicknamed “Nancy” after the antagonist of the film Attack of The 50 Foot Woman, gives the team an exclusive opportunity to create unique new flavors and spirits.
