CODASciSys Wins Important Defence Contracts Total Value Approaching #1 million
3rd June 2003
CODASciSys Group plc, the global IT services provider, announces that it has won
3 major contracts in the space and defence sectors with an initial value
approaching #1 million during 2003.
Through its SciSys subsidiary, CODASciSys has won, in partnership with a number
of major defence contractors, contracts in the defence digitization arena,
particularly for the Land Component Commander. Following on from the development
of a Bowman training simulator to help train 70,000 service personnel on the
Bowman system in the Digital Battlefield, SciSys is involved in three major
competitive contract wins:
* a warning and reporting system for nuclear, biological and chemical events
(NBC BISA);
* a tactical targeting tool to digitize the Find and Delivery functions for
Joint Effects Assets allocated to the Land Component Commander (JETTS); and
* a mobile engineering support system for the Royal Engineers (Makefast
BISA).
NBC BISA is a Windows NT application that combines disparate sources of
information about the NBC battlefield hazard into a coherent set of warnings
that enables a rapid response to indications of an NBC attack. It takes a core
application developed by MOD DstL (Defence Science and Technology Laboratories)
under the MOD's Applied Research Programme, and the consortium of which SciSys
is a part is 'productising' the system and preparing it for full implementation.
JETTS is a set of tools which allows the collection of data from existing
systems, then coordinates and delivers that information to an asset e.g. the
artillery. One of the cornerstones of the system is a deconfliction tool that
can deconflict deployments and missions in terms of space, time, control
measures, spectrum and power. JETTS will be capable of viewing the battlespace
picture for current operations, or at a specified time in the future.
The Makefast BISA is a system specifically for the Engineer Community which will
facilitate the organisation and planning of engineering support to the
battlefield. SciSys is currently involved in the assessment work prior to the
full system development phase. When it is fully functional, it will enhance the
speed and accuracy of command and control in the accomplishment of Engineer
battlefield tasks. The system, to be installed on BOWMAN data terminals and hand
held devices, will eventually be deployed to over 3000 users. Makefast will also
allow users to browse encyclopaedic information currently held in manual form
and enable the recoding of selected battlefield information.
"SciSys is now recognized as capable of making a significant impact on the
outturn of an important programme in the land digitization domain. Our partners
and customers regard us as innovative and flexible and our success in this field
has led us to be well respected for the quality of our staff and the service we
can, and have, delivered to the DPA (Defence Procurement Agency) and the user
community. Our achievements in the Defence sector are based on our effectiveness
in successfully partnering and working closely with major defence prime
contractors and with the DPA. Our close and effective relationships with the key
players in the sector, and the quality of the systems we deliver, underpin our
current and future success in the Defence arena," explains Peter Turner,
Business Director at SciSys.
