Mr. John Q. Hammons today announced his plans to develop a
10-story, 250-room Courtyard(R) by Marriott(R) in McKinney, Texas.
The new hotel will be owned by Mr. Hammons and will be managed by
Springfield, Mo.-based John Q. Hammons Hotels, Inc. (AMEX:JQH), the
nation's leading independent builder, developer, owner and manager
of upscale, full-service hotels, resorts and suites. Strategically
located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 75 and State Highway
121 and two miles from the Collin County Regional Airport, the
Courtyard by Marriott will adjoin a planned 75,000-square-foot
conference center, to be owned by the city of McKinney and managed
by John Q. Hammons Hotels. The biggest project to date for the
community of McKinney, construction on the hotel and conference
center is scheduled to begin in spring 2007. The new Courtyard by
Marriott will be the seventh hotel owned by Mr. Hammons and managed
by John Q. Hammons Hotels, Inc. in the Dallas-Forth Worth area.
"Over the next five to 10 years, we foresee the area around State
Highway 121 and U.S. Highway 75 will experience tremendous growth,
especially when 121 is completed," said Mr. John Q. Hammons,
founder, chairman and chief executive officer of John Q. Hammons
Hotels, Inc. "John Q. Hammons Hotels continues to invest in the
Dallas-Fort Worth area because it is one of the best centers for
growth in the country, and I am confident the new property's
first-class accommodations and flexible meeting space will exceed
the expectations of all." The Courtyard by Marriott and McKinney
Conference Center are part of a larger planned shopping and
residence destination for the city of McKinney. According to Chris
Shane, vice president of acquisitions of O & S Holdings, LLC,
of Brentwood, Calif., the destination will be a 1
million-square-foot neo-urban, upscale lifestyle center complete
with shopping, dining, entertainment, offices and possible
apartments and residences. Shane says O & S Holdings'
commitment to quality and unique design concepts allows the company
to create atmospheres where people can live, work and play, all in
the same space. McKinney Officials Comments on Developments "As one
of the fastest growing cities in America, McKinney has a great need
for a full-service, business-class hotel and convention center.
This property will provide a place for major events and activities,
and I fully expect it to become a focal point for both visitors and
citizens of McKinney." -- David Pitstick, president and CEO of the
McKinney Economic Development Corporation "The hotel and convention
center represents one of the largest and most complex projects the
McKinney Economic Development Corporation has worked on. This
development will bring new tax base and jobs to McKinney, and we
are excited all the parties are ready to move forward." -- Ray
Ricchi, chairman of the McKinney Economic Development Corporation
"This ambitious development will change the face of McKinney and
will change some perceptions people have about McKinney. It will
offer an impressive entry point to McKinney for people driving
north on I-75, and it will help us meet the business and conference
needs of our existing businesses and be an invaluable asset in
recruiting new businesses." -- Thad Helsley, City Council member "A
business-class hotel and conference center has been the top
priority for City Council for the past few years, and we're happy
to announce it is now a reality. We have the right developers for
this type of facility in John Q. Hammons Hotels and O & S
Holdings, and we're looking forward to moving ahead." -- Brian
