National Lampoon Inc. (AMEX:NLN), the most recognized brand in comedy, today announced production plans for its next in-house feature �National Lampoon�s The Legend of Awesomest Maximus� starring Mad TV�s Will Sasso (Less than Perfect, For Christ Sake), Ian Ziering (90210), Kristanna Loken (Terminator 3), Sophie Monk (Date Movie) and Rip Torn (Dodgeball), and directed by Jeff Kanew (Revenge of the Nerds). In the spirit of Mel Brooks� HISTORY OF THE WORLD, the project, written by Jason Burinescu, is a spoof of popular �sword-and-sandal� films, such as 300, Troy, Gladiator, and Braveheart, but is centered on the fresh and funny tale of �Awesomest Maximus� (Will Sasso), an unconventional General who reluctantly agrees to do whatever he can to ensure that he and his nagging wife �Hottessa� (Loken) become the next King and Queen of Troy. His villainous counterpart �Testiclees� will be played by Ian Ziering. Other notable cast members include Sophie Monk as �Princess Ellen� and Tony Cox as �Minoritees�. There will also be supporting appearances from well-known comedians Ahmed Ahmed (You Don�t Mess with the Zohan), Russell Peters (Quarter-Life Crisis), the Sklar Brothers, and Eddie Pepitone (Old School). �We�re excited to embark on another National Lampoon original production, especially with a cast of this caliber,� stated National Lampoon Chief Executive Officer, Daniel Laikin. ��National Lampoon�s The Legend of Awesomest Maximus�, our third feature to be produced and distributed in-house, is a hilarious spoof of some of the classic films of our generation, and is sure to please National Lampoon fans worldwide.� The film begins production in Utah immediately and will be distributed worldwide by National Lampoon. The broadcast rights to the film have been pre-sold to Comedy Central. The film is being produced by National Lampoon, along with Dan Farah and Jason Burinescu. Will Sasso and Dale Rosenbloom will executive produce, with Justin Kanew serving as National Lampoon�s executive in charge of production. National Lampoon plans to release up to four original in-house produced titles per year. Most recently, National Lampoon has released �National Lampoon�s Bagboy�, �National Lampoon�s Homo Erectus�, and is currently in post-production on �National Lampoon�s Ratko: The Dictator�s Son�. In addition, National Lampoon plans to release up to eight acquisition titles per year. Releases to date have included � �Beach Party at the Threshold of Hell�, �Electric Apricot�, �Jake�s Booty Call�, and �One, Two, Many�.
