SuperShuttle provides new transportation options for Raleigh Convention Center and visitors PHOENIX, Feb. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- SuperShuttle International, Inc. officially opens full service shared ride operations to and from Raleigh-Durham International Airport today, February 5, 2009. (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20071030/LATU031LOGO) SuperShuttle began limited service at RDU beginning on January 3, 2009. Today, it will celebrate the opening of its full-service operation for the entire Research Triangle Region. SuperShuttle was invited and granted a contract by the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority in late 2008 to serve the Research Triangle Region and marks one of the first start up ventures for SuperShuttle in many years. They will begin with 15 Blue Vans and build the system as growth demands. SuperShuttle is a shared-ride service which provides customers with a less expensive option than traditional forms of transportation to and from the airport by sharing a ride with other customers in close proximity. Its state of the art GPS mapping system allows SuperShuttle to be the most efficient shared ride service in the country serving over 29 airports nationwide. The official opening of SuperShuttle's full-service operation will be marked with a ribbon cutting. Expected attendance includes mayors of Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill, as well as airport officials including Airport Director John Brantley and SuperShuttle General Manager Jonathan Bowen. "Over the years, we have discussed with regional leaders the need for additional transportation options to the city centers, Research Triangle Park and Raleigh's new convention center," said Brantley. "We are here today to celebrate this new service which will greatly benefit our local customers as well as visitors to our region." "We are so excited about the Raleigh-Durham area and can't wait to get going," said David Bird, senior vice-president of operations for the area. "SuperShuttle has been on an acquisition track for the last several years, so we are looking forward to once again being able to build a ground-up operation." The Raleigh-Durham area, known as the Research Triangle Region, is home to world-renowned universities and medical facilities, as well as leading bio-tech and high-tech companies. For this reason, as well as the recent opening of the Raleigh Convention Center, combined with an active economy, SuperShuttle International chose to invest in the community. SuperShuttle will continue to invest in the area and is always looking for good people to join the company.
