Holland Hospital Simplifies Management of Supplies and Finances with Lawson Healthcare Applications

Holland Hospital is now using the latest Lawson Software (Nasdaq:
LWSN) applications to help enhance its reporting capabilities,
automate business processes and support its growth plans. Holland
recently deployed a pre-configured software package for community
hospitals that includes the Lawson S3 Supply Chain Management,
Enterprise Performance Management and Enterprise Financial
Management suites as well as Lawson Mobile Supply Chain Management.
Lawson made the announcement during the 2008 Lawson Conference and
User Exchange (CUE) in Las Vegas. Holland Hospital is a 205-bed,
not-for-profit hospital located in Holland, Mich., with 1,600
employees. It previously relied on legacy financial and materials
management systems, which hindered employee productivity and
data-sharing across departments. Hollands formerly paper-based
reporting methods also required redundant data entry. As a result,
the hospital sought a centralized information system that would
help automate business processes, which can help increase employee
productivity and reduce administrative activities. The Lawson
community hospital methodology offered an affordable, streamlined
path for implementing the business software we need to support our
long-term goals, said Randy Paruch, director of Information
Systems for Holland Hospital. Were already starting to achieve
time and cost savings based on the Lawson applications and built-in
healthcare best practices. The Lawson implementation methodology
for community hospitals helped simplify the software deployment,
reducing project costs while helping Holland more quickly realize
the value of the unified Lawson system. Since implementing Lawson,
Holland standardized its materials management and financial
processes, improved its data accuracy and increased operational
efficiencies. For example, Holland is now able to electronically
track and report on organization-wide information. The Lawson
system provides a single user interface and centralized data
repository, helping employees enter and share data, such as
purchase order information, across departments. Holland also used
the Lawson system to create a scalable financial system ? a key
internal goal. This allowed Holland to automate several formerly
manual financial processes. For example, the Lawson Requisition
Self-Service application automates much of the hospitals
requisition-to-payment process. This enables the hospital to
quickly generate purchase orders for multiple orders while
accelerating the entire requisition approval cycle. In addition to
the Lawson business applications, Holland is also benefiting from
the Lawson Mobile Supply Chain Management solution. Employees using
Par & Cycle Counting, part of the Lawson Mobile Supply Chain
Management application, save about an hour of time each day
tracking and replenishing supplies, which enhances service to
clinical staff by helping to ensure supplies are available when and
where they are needed. Finally, Holland used Lawson Business
Intelligence, part of the Lawson S3 Enterprise Performance
Management Suite, to help establish an internal portal, which
provides managers with a comprehensive view of organization-wide
data. As a result, Holland can now send role-specific reports to
managers across 12 departments to promote timely decision-making.
Community hospitals, like their larger peers, want business
software thats easy to deploy and use, said Michelle Schooff,
healthcare marketing director, Lawson Software. Lawsons
implementation methodology for community hospitals helps simplify
software deployment for smaller organizations to help them achieve
a fast ROI at a low total cost of ownership. Lawson serves more
than 500 healthcare industry customers representing more than 4,500
