Anderson Hospital Selects M*Modal Fluency Direct™ to Speech-Enable its EHR

M*Modal (NASDAQ/GS: MODL), a leading provider of clinical
documentation and Speech Understanding solutions, today announced
that Anderson Hospital, one of the U.S. News & World Report’s
Best Hospitals of 2012, has selected M*Modal Fluency Direct™ for
use in the hospital and physician offices for speech-enablement of
two new, separate electronic health record implementations.
Anderson Hospital chose M*Modal Fluency Direct™ based on its
success with M*Modal’s transcription services, which include
pre-learned voice profiles of Anderson’s physicians already
existing in M*Modal's cloud service, as well as the system’s
flexibility and compatibility with multiple EHR systems. M*Modal’s
Speech Understanding™ solution displaces Anderson Hospital’s legacy
speech software.
“We are pleased that M*Modal was selected by Anderson Hospital
to deliver best-in-class clinical documentation solutions and
support with two simultaneous EHR implementations,” said Vern
Davenport, Chairman and CEO, M*Modal. “M*Modal’s cloud-based
technology was developed to meet the needs of hospitals like
Anderson that require a quick, seamless changeover, improving the
EHR and clinical documentation process for IT and physicians
without disrupting patient care.”
M*Modal has been Anderson Hospital’s preferred transcription
services provider since 2009. Anderson Hospital’s challenge was to
quickly implement reliable speech technology to coincide with its
Meditech EHR transition in the main hospital and NextGen EHR
transition across its physician offices. M*Modal’s successful track
record of deploying new technology quickly and effectively with a
variety of EHR providers, plus Anderson’s overall satisfaction with
its ongoing transcription services, made M*Modal Fluency Direct a
natural choice. With this technology, speech recognition and
Natural Language Understanding are linked together in one, seamless
process. M*Modal Fluency Direct™ offered the immediate flexibility
for the deployment of the hospital EHR and soon the physician
offices EHR. The longer term benefit of leveraging the vast amount
of unstructured data being created will improve care and create
better informed financial decisions.
“Moving over to electronic health records is a laborious task,
and can take precious time away from our physicians’ daily routine
as they get trained on the new system. With M*Modal we were able to
offer our physicians a usable, flexible speech solution to
alleviate any stress about transitioning to EHRs and get them
ramped up quickly,” said Michelle Malawy, Director, HIM and
Performance Improvement, Anderson Hospital. “We are completely
satisfied not only with the technology but also the M*Modal
implementation team’s work, and could not have asked for a smoother
conversion. Many of our physicians have been directly quoted as
saying they ‘love’ the speech recognition piece of the electronic
health record, helping us more easily achieve our goal with the
roll out of the new EHR.”
Announced in May, M*Modal Fluency is a family of cloud-based
clinical solutions for dictation capture, speech recognition
editing and document distribution to optimize clinical information
workflow, speed up the revenue cycle, help achieve HIPAA and
regulatory compliance, as well as help meet Meaningful Use and
electronic health record requirements.
