NXP Semiconductors NV said its board nominated the company's president to become the new chief executive.

The board is nominating Kurt Sievers to succeed current CEO Rick Clemmer, who has been at the helm for more than a decade. Mr. Clemmer will become company adviser, the chip maker said.

Mr. Sievers' appointment as chief executive will be proposed at NXP's annual shareholder meeting, scheduled for May 27, the Netherlands-based company said Thursday. He has been president since September 2018 and started at the company in 1995.

Qualcomm Inc. previously intended to purchase NXP, but China in 2018 didn't approve the deal.
