VocalTec Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq:VOCL), a global provider of carrier-class multimedia and voice-over-IP solutions for communication service providers, announced today that Far East Telecom (Dalsvyaz), a regional incumbent service provider and part of the SvyazInvest group, has selected VocalTec as the provider for its core Class-5 and Class-4 VoIP network. The project will be implemented in conjunction with Inline Telecom, a leading Systems Integrator in Russia.

Far East Telecom is transforming its network to a core IP network. This deployment represents the first stage of Far East Telecom’s migration plan, including the deployment of VocalTec’s Essentra Class-5 and Class-4 VoIP solutions across five distributed locations with initial support for tens of thousands of subscribers. The project will provide for a seamless transition and will enable Far East Telecom to offer a wide range of innovative subscriber services, as well as efficiently managing the interconnection to its existing traditional telephony network.

VocalTec’s SIP-based VoIP solution will enable greater capacities and efficiencies and is designed to support Far East Telecom’s future network evolution to hundreds of thousands of subscribers; VocalTec’s comprehensive certification by the Russian Ministry of Communications further supports Far East Telecom’s requirements and service needs.
