A shareholder asked for specific examples of how Berkshire sets up compensation for its executives.

Warren Buffett declined to give any specifics, but he talked generally about how hard it is to get compensation right, especially to keep up with what competitors are paying.

Then he came back to a favorite topic: Berkshire culture.

"We have kept a very, very high percentage of the managers that we hope to have stay with us," he said. "Compensation is part of that, but it's not the whole thing."
