Hampton Roads Consumers Spend More Than $7 Million Annually on Late
Fees at Video Rental Stores Entertainment On Demand, Exclusively
From Cox Communications, Can Put That Money Back in Your Pocket!
HAMPTON ROADS, Va., April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Hampton Roads
residents are paying more than $7 million in video rental late
fees, according to Video Store Magazine. The industry trade
magazine also finds that late fees account for 12 percent of video
store revenue. Entertainment on Demand service, available
exclusively on Cox Digital Cable, can help consumers keep that
money in their pockets. Launched in Hampton Roads last September,
Entertainment on Demand (EOD) from Cox Digital Cable gives
customers access to the latest and classic hit movies through their
digital cable set top box. Customers can watch what they want to
watch, when they want to watch it -- in full digital quality. With
EOD from Cox, there's no traveling to the video store, no waiting
in lines, no worries over late return fees and no disappointment
over sold-out movies. Movies from iN DEMAND, Cox EOD partner, are
available at any time and consumers can pause, fast-forward and
rewind with their Cox Digital Cable remote control. EOD is not
available through satellite service providers. "EOD gives us a
strong competitive edge because it allows us to provide an enhanced
video viewing experience at a very low cost," Frank Bowers, Vice
President and General Manager for Cox added. "In addition, our
customers don't have to leave home in order to enjoy great movies.
They can order high-quality digital movies right from the comfort
of their living room sofa, while utilizing the same functions
featured on a VCR or DVD player. Plus they don't have to return a
tape to the video store after viewing and worry about late fees."
Cox's EOD service in Hampton Roads provides a 24-hour viewing
window for movie purchases, allowing customers to view movies
instantly or to watch them at a later time. Current hit movie
titles cost $3.95, with classic library titles ranging from $1.95
to $2.95. Entertainment on Demand is available on channel 499 on
Cox Digital Cable. During the month of April, Cox is partnering
with iN DEMAND to educate consumers on the benefits of choosing EOD
over a typical video store experience. Beginning today, consumers
can visit several area locations to see live demos of EOD. They
will also have the opportunity to tell their worst video rental
experience and to win a 51-inch High Definition Television.
Customers can also enter the watch and win sweepstakes located by
visiting channel 499 on Cox Digital Cable. Events will take place:
Wednesday, April 14 6-9 PM at the Grand Opening of Max &
Erma's, Town Center, Virginia Beach There will be a 51" HDTV
awarded to the person with the worst video store rental story.
Saturday, April 17 1-3 PM at Patrick Henry Mall At Patrick Henry
mall, there will be a 46" HDTV given awarded to the person with the
worst video store rental story and a 52" HDTV give-away courtesy of
Grand Furniture. Sunday, April 18 3-5 PM at Greenbrier Mall There
will be a 46" HDTV awarded to the person with the worst video store
rental story and a 52" HDTV give-away courtesy of Grand Furniture.
"The video rental experience is evolving and digital technologies
like Entertainment On Demand, which has been embraced in over 12
million cable homes nationally, are now among the host of primetime
choices for the mainstream television viewing audience," said Steve
Brenner, president & chief executive officer of iN DEMAND.
"Clearly Cox Entertainment On Demand provides a more compelling,
consumer-friendly alternative to the video store by allowing
consumers to avoid the hassles tied to traditional video renting."
Some of the major motion pictures featured in April by Cox
Entertainment On Demand include: Intolerable Cruelty, Lost in
Translation, Runaway Jury, Dicky Roberts: Former Child Star,
Matchstick Men, The Missing and School of Rock. For more
