Employment Index for Rhode Island (JobsInRI) for the second quarter
2007 showed online recruitment activity increased 26 percent and
Web site visits significantly increased 52 percent as compared to
the second quarter of 2006. Healthcare continued to lead all
industries with an increase of 46 percent for jobs posted over the
second quarter of 2006. Non-profit recruitment paced higher than

significant trends for Second Quarter 2007: -- The number of jobs
posted this quarter (3,249) is up 26 percent from second quarter
2006. There is also general strength in many areas of the state and
across many industries. -- A majority of the new job openings were
in Providence County with 43.3 percent of all job openings, Kent
County at 14.2 percent and Newport County at 19.1 percent. -- Job
openings activity covered a number of job types: - Health Care,
15.5% of all job openings - Customer Support, 6.8% - Nonprofit,
6.0% - Sales, 5.5% - Clerical, 4.3% -- Companies with less than 50
employees had 43.2 percent of all job openings. -- Companies with
101-250 employees accounted for 19.7 percent of the total. --
Companies with 51-100 employees accounted for 8.2 percent of the
total. -- Job openings for full-time positions were 62.8% for the
quarter. -- Part-time positions made up 34.2% of jobs -- Contract
or per diem was 3.0% Job Search Trends: The following are the
significant trends for Second Quarter 2007: -- The number of
qualified (job seeker used specific parameters to search for a
position) searches this quarter was 130,728. -- The top job
categories searched by job seekers were: - Health Care, 10.7% of
all qualified searches - Clerical, 7.5% - Customer Service, 4.1% -
Accounting, 3.8% - Banking/Finance, 3.3% -- The qualified searches
revealed 23.2 percent contained a geographic preference. -
Providence County was 56.1% of qualified searches - Kent County,
19.6% - Washington County, 10.5% -- A majority of the job seekers
prefer to look for positions within close proximity to their home.
The commuting preference for job seekers was: - 1-30 miles 61.3% -
