WSC West Street Capital Corp.

West Street Capital Corporation ("West Street") (TSX VENTURE: WSC)(TSX VENTURE: WSC.PR.A) announced today that its shareholders have approved the amalgamation (the "Amalgamation") of West Street with a wholly-owned subsidiary of Brookfield Asset Management Inc. ("Brookfield"). The Amalgamation is expected to be completed on October 1, 2009.

As a result of the Amalgamation, Brookfield will beneficially own all of the Class E Preferred Shares, Series 1 ("Preferred Shares") of West Street. The Preferred Shares will be de-listed from the TSX Venture Exchange as soon as practicable after the completion of the Amalgamation.
