PR Newswire (US)
HANFORD, Calif., May 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Thresher
Industries, Inc. (Pink Sheets: THRR), a California-based
manufacturer of precision aluminum and advanced metal matrix
composite parts, announced today that it has begun development on a
low-carbon footprint, highly thermal conductive die cast aluminum
composite, a type of heat sink, initially targeted for use in the
LED lighting industry. White, high powered LEDs can accommodate
150-200 lumens per watt, twice the efficacy of current fluorescent
technologies and roughly 10 times that of incandescent lighting,
according to the U.S. DOE. Industry experts believe the long-life
and high energy efficiency of LEDs will become the standard of
illumination within the next several years. Thresher's goal is to
advance the development of energy-efficient technologies such as
LED lighting, which require superior heat dissipation during
manufacturing. "Our entry into the heat sink industry positions us
to capitalize on the tremendous growth of the LED market. According
to Strategies Unlimited, the LED lighting market is forecasted to
grow to $1.65 billion by 2012, making it one of the fastest growing
segments in the LED industry," said Tom Flessner, President and CEO
of Thresher Industries, Inc. "We are entering the data gathering
and testing phase of our heat sinks. Ultimately, we plan to offer a
fully developed and proven material to a wide range of industries
that are seeking new technologies and renewable materials that can
lower their carbon footprint and enhance product performance."
Thresher Industries has entered into discussions with California
Polytechnic State University-San Louis Obispo's Material Sciences
Department to conduct testing and reporting material data on its
heat sinks. Thresher's product development efforts are focused on a
low carbon footprint, highly thermal conductive heat sink with
performance exceeding 6061 billet aluminum for use in LED lighting.
In addition to LED applications, Thresher anticipates to expand
into much broader markets in the automotive, electronic and
aerospace industries. About Thresher Industries, Inc. Based in
Hanford, California, Thresher Industries Inc. is an eco-friendly
"Made in the USA" manufacturer that provides a full range of
casting capabilities, from prototypes or low volume casting to
permanent mold, low pressure and high pressure castings. All raw
materials are 100% recycled aluminum, sourced and processed
exclusively in the U.S. Thresher's foundry is a zero-discharge, ISO
9000-certified facility that uses bio-degradable technologies,
renewable materials and proprietary processes that lower costs and
the environmental footprint of its customers. Thresher offers full
