PRELIMINARY STATEMENT OF ANNUAL RESULTS AND DIVIDENDS FOR YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER
2004
The financial information set out below does not constitute the Group and
Company's statutory accounts for the years ended 31 December 2004 and 31
December 2003. Statutory accounts for the year ended 31 December 2003 have been
delivered to the Registrar of Companies and those for the year ended 31 December
2004 will be delivered to the Registrar of Companies by 31 July 2005. The
Group's auditors have reported on the accounts for the year ended 31 December
2004. Their report was unqualified and did not contain statements under Section
237(2) or (3) of the Companies Act 1985.
This announcement has been prepared on the basis of accounting policies set out
in the Annual Report and Accounts for the year ended 31 December 2003, with the
exception that during the year the Group ceased the capitalisation of interest
costs. This change in policy was made in order to bring the Group into line with
the accounting policies of companies operating in the same sector.
The impact on the current year's results of the change in accounting policy was
to decrease the profit attributable to members by #1.7m.
The impact on the results for the year ended 31 December 2003 of the change in
accounting policy was to decrease the profit attributable to members by #1.7m.
The results for the year to 31 December 2004 show a profit on ordinary
activities before taxation of #133.0m.
After allowing for #9.0m of preference dividends paid, the profit transferred to
reserves for the year was #87.8m.
Cash generated enabled the Group to reduce net debt by #44.2m to #64.0m.
