Rio Tinto Names Transurban CEO Chris Lynch To Its Board

Mining giant Rio Tinto PLC (RIO) said Thursday Chris Lynch, an
experienced mining industry executive and currently chief executive
of toll road developer Transurban Group Ltd. (TCL.AU), has joined
its board as a non-executive director.
Lynch held a number of positions at BHP Billiton Ltd. (BHP)
between 2000 and 2007, spending six years as chief financial
officer before becoming executive director and group president of
the carbon steel materials unit. Prior to that he held various
roles at Alcoa Inc. (TCL.AU), including vice president and chief
information officer between 1999 and 2000.
"He has nearly 30 years of tremendous experience acquired in the
mining and metals industry," said Jan du Plessis, chairman of
Anglo-Australian Rio. "In addition, Chris is a leading figure in
the Australian business community and his appointment reflects the
significance of Australia to Rio Tinto's global operations."
