                                 AGM Statement

At today's Annual General Meeting, Malcolm Coster, Chairman of MTL Instruments
Group plc, will make the following statement:

Market conditions in the areas in which MTL operates remain strong and order
intake is ahead of the same period in 2006. We remain confident of meeting
market expectations despite the continuing weakness of the US dollar which will
have some impact on our comparative trading results, particularly in the first
half.

The Company continues to pursue actively its current growth strategy and the
Board is confident of further developments in 2007.
