Fujifilm announced the creation of a new company, effective today, that simplifies and integrates all management, manufacturing and service support for its recording media operations. The new company, FUJIFILM Recording Media U.S.A., Inc. (FRMU), will maintain the sales and marketing headquarters in Valhalla, NY, with manufacturing and distribution operations continuing to be located in Bedford, Massachusetts. FRMU will operate as an independent company within FUJIFILM Holdings America Corporation. With this announcement, Fujifilm is extending its commitment to provide tape-based solutions, which are critical for storage and archiving in todays increasingly complex, high-capacity data centers, as well as in broadcast and professional video environments. These changes will seamlessly improve our ability to provide faster, more efficient services and support to our customers who face increasingly complex data storage environments requiring more sophisticated media solutions, said Peter Faulhaber, Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing, FUJIFILM Recording Media USA. By combining our world-class magnetic tape coating technology and recording products with efficient, responsive operations and customer service based right here in the U.S., Fujifilm is well positioned to meet the needs of our customers and partners today and well into the future. FUJIFILM Magnetic Coating Technologies Play Key Role FUJIFILM revolutionized tape manufacturing in 1992 with the introduction of Fujifilm Advanced super Thin-layer and high-Output Metal Media (ATOMM) dual-coated media. This technology led to unique storage advances in products such as ZIP, DDS, DLT, SDLT and LTO. The special die coating created for applying two separate and unique layers then evolved to the companys next generation process, NANOCUBIC. FUJIFILM NANOCUBIC coating technology was responsible for the companys breakthrough advances in enterprise tape technology and LTO Ultrium 4 Data Cartridge. Fujifilm engineers recently advanced this process by optimizing barium ferrite particles for multi-terabyte storage capacity in future generation media. Continuing advances in data density and cartridge capacity help keep magnetic tape the most cost-effective form of data storage. Tape offers both the lowest cost per/GB and is remarkably energy efficient, significantly reducing operational and investment costs. The Write-Once-Read-Many (WORM) capability of tape makes it unalterable, while encryption is available through data management software and now available at the drive level with the LTO Ultrium 4 format.
