Robotic Vision Systems, Inc. Introduces High-Performance Tape-and-Reel System

DT-8800 Tape-and-Reel System provides safe, high-speed inspection and packaging technology

CANTON, Mass., Jul 15, 2002 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Robotic Vision Systems, Inc. (RVSI) (Nasdaq: ROBV) today announced the DT- 8800, a tape-and-reel system that provides semiconductor manufacturers with the safest, high-speed inspection and packaging of SOIC, SSOP, TSSOP, and similar part types of SMDs into tubes or carrier tape. Each system is dedicated to a single part type and designed with RVSI's Drop Point(TM) technology to ensure there is no post-inspection contact between parts, reducing jams and skewed devices. The DT-8800 processes up to 14,000 devices per hour without any risk of part damage, resulting in a significantly increased throughput and lessened need for operator intervention.
The DT-8800 features Drop-Point technology that eliminates damaged or misaligned parts caused by torsional movements found on most pick-and-place systems. The Drop-Point mechanism utilizes a gravity arm that moves devices in one direction to provide the most accurate, safe positioning into the carrier tape. The integration of Drop-Point technology makes the DT-8800 ideal for handling fragile devices such as leaded components.

RVSI's AVS enhanced vision system provides the DT-8800 with comprehensive inspection capabilities. The AVS vision system uses a high-resolution digital CCD camera, telecentric lens and advanced lighting techniques to provide a distortion-free image. It inspects for mark quality and device orientation, as well as 3-D measurement of lead coplanarity, terminal dimension, true position span and spread error, pitch, width, and standoff. Precise, repeatable 3-D inspection occurs at maximum production speeds, ensuring unparalleled quality and enhanced throughput.

The DT-8800 employs a simple design using only the highest-quality components to ensure easy deployment and greater uptime. It's high speed and ability to safely handle fragile components makes the DT-8800 the superior tape-and-reel system for demanding manufacturing environments.
