The combination of Viacom Inc. (VIA, VIAB) and CBS Corp. (CBS) is expected to be completed in early December, the companies said Monday.

A registration statement on Form S-4 was declared effective by the Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday.

The all-stock deal was announced in August. Shari Redstone will become chair of the combined company. Ms. Redstone is president of National Amusements Inc., the holding company that controls both CBS and Viacom.

On Monday, CBS and Viacom said National Amusements has approved the transaction.
